In a move to enhance tourism, both Thailand and Laos have recently introduced relaxed visa policies, making it easier for travelers to explore these beautiful Southeast Asian destinations.
Thailand has significantly expanded its visa-free policy, now allowing citizens from 93 countries and territories to stay for up to 60 days, an increase from the previous 57. This change is expected to draw even more visitors, making Thailand a must-visit destination for tourists from around the globe.
Laos has also taken steps to simplify travel by expanding its visa exemption list to include eight additional European countries: Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Spain, and Greece. Citizens from these countries can now travel visa-free for up to 15 days. Additionally, Laos has extended the stay period for multiple-entry visas from 30 to 60 days for citizens of 22 countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the U.S.
With these new visa policies, both countries are expected to see a significant rise in tourist arrivals.Thailand, for instance, has already welcomed 18.2 million tourists this year before the arrival of this new policy and is aiming for 36 million by year’s end. Laos, meanwhile, is focused on unlocking its tourism potential through initiatives the “Visit Laos 2024” program.
