Update: Coronavirus 02.04.2020:
Vietnam officially declares COVID-19 a national epidemic. The decision comes as the COVID-19 has spread to 25 cities and provinces across the country. As of April 1, Vietnam has recorded a total of 212 infections, of which 63 have been subsequently discharged from hospital.
All Vietnamese residents are required to stay at home for 14 days from April 1 to 15.
- People are permitted to go out in the following cases: Purchasing medicine, food and essential stuff, or emergencies.
- Any gathering of more than 2 people in public outside of offices, school, and hospital is prohibited.
- Keeping a minimum distance of 2 meters when communicating.
- All Vietnamese and foreigners must wear face masks in public areas. A fine is in place for those found not wearing masks and those who fail to dispose of their masks properly.
Update: Coronavirus 06.03.2020:
All tourists entering Vietnam will be required to fill out a medical declaration form from 7th March, 2020. The declaration is mandatory and an integral aspect of Vietnam’s efforts to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Tourists will be able to do it either in writing or via an electronic form available at https://suckhoetoandan.vn/khaiyte
The declaration form has the following languages: Vietnamese, English, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Khmer.

Vietnam decided to suspend unilateral visa exemptions for Italian citizens. The decision set to take effect as of 0:00 am on March 3, due to the complicated developments surrounding the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic in Italy.

Update: Coronavirus 28.02.2020:
CDC (The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) removed Vietnam from its list of areas experiencing widespread or sustained community transmission of Covid-19, which currently includes China, Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea.
Update: Coronavirus 26.02.2020:
As of February 26, 2020, all 16 confirmed 16 cases of COVID-19 within its borders since the virus first became known have recovered and have been released from the hospital. There have been no new cases of COVID-19 reported in Vietnam since February 13.
Update: Coronavirus 12.02.2020:
In the official letter dated 12 February 2020, VNAT’s Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh officially confirmed that tourist spots in Vietnam remain open and international visitors to Vietnam are safeguarded.
Vietnam is doing its best to control the acute respiratory disease caused by COVID-19, focusing on carrying out multi-level isolation for those suspected of infection.
At present, Vietnam has been effectively controlling Covid-19. There is no spread of Covid-19 within the community in Vietnam. Especially, 7 out of 16 confirmed infection cases in Vietnam have been successfully cured. Vietnam applied bans all flights from and to China over coronavirus to control the spread of the pandemic. The current situation seems better for Vietnam when it sees the weather with more sun and higher temperature and the current infected patients are in good conditions, and no death report, even the first two Chinese Wuhan patients. World Health Organization spoke highly of prevention and protection measures of Vietnam.
The country authority also decided to continue the famous F1 – Fomula1 Vietnam Grandpix 2020 3-5 April 2020.
Tourist spots were antiseptic treated and visitors can feel safe now. A rising number of visitors was recorded at famous tourist spots of Ha Noi such as Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple, Temple of Literature, Thang Long Citadel, Ha Noi Old Quarter…, reported on 13 February.
While waiting for the vaccines, everyone is recommended to follow the following basic protective measures against the new coronavirus from WHO.
- Wash your hands frequently
With soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub if your hands are not visibly dirty.
- Practice respiratory hygiene
When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
- Maintain social distancing
At least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Hands touch many surfaces which can be contaminated with the virus. If you touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your contaminated hands, you can transfer the virus from the surface to yourself.
- If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
Tell your health care provider if you have traveled in an area in China where 2019-nCoV has been reported, or if you have been in close contact with someone with who has traveled from China and has respiratory symptoms.
- If you have mild respiratory symptoms and no travel history to or within China
Carefully practice basic respiratory and hand hygiene and stay home until you are recovered, if possible.
- As a general precaution, practice general hygiene measures when visiting live animal markets, wet markets or animal product markets
- Avoid consumption of raw or undercooked animal products
